Fixture date confirmed Norwich Evening News,*UK*- May 11, Swansea are at home to Brentford and Barnsley at home to Huddersfield.
Monday, October 29, was the evening. I remember the date because the following morning, Glenn Roeder was unveiled as Norwich City’s new boss. I was getting a new job too. My first in journalism, on a sportsdesk no less, with the chance to help cover the Canaries for the Eastern Daily Press, Norwich Evening News and pinkun.
Since then I’ve seen the Canaries fall and rise and rise and stabilise and fall and rise and fall and rise; and spent four months banned by the club from reporting on them at all. I was probably the most fortunate journalist at the London Olympics – not only covering the entire event alongside top photographer Nick Butcher, but getting to pick and choose which events to take in on any given morning.
Four years as sports editor of Mustard TV was as wacky as it gets – but you won’t find anyone more proud of what we achieved, developing from scratch sports coverage the city of Norwich deserved. Maybe it’s just been luck. I’ve had so many fantastic colleagues I’ve enjoyed working with and learning from. So many opportunities to learn new skills and try out new platforms – most of which you will have been exposed to, probably before they were ready for public consumption!
And what a way to sign off from Archant: enjoying with Paddy Davitt, Dave Freezer and Tony Thrussell the most incredible Canaries ride I’ve witness in my time as a journalist, season ticket holder and supporter rolled into one. The good news is I won’t be going far away – but that’s for another day. For here and now, it’s just a big thank you for making my time writing on these pages the pleasure I always hoped it would be.

Norwich is a great student city with a vibrant nightlife. If you fancy venturing a bit further for your nights out, jump on the bus to the city and head down to Prince of Wales road. And the selection of burger joints to hit on the way home will leave your mouth watering! Fancy a night off campus but not in the mood to deal with yet another night of partying and dancing? Cinema City could well be the place for you! They have a student membership , which gives you a couple of free tickets and money off food and drink.
And just in case you fancy a glass, they even let you take wine into the theatres with you. Want to stay on campus but in the mood for a little more than a pint and a round of pool in Red Bar? Head round the other side and spend your evening at Blue Bar aka the place where Coldplay broadcast live on Radio 1. And, if you get there before , they let you eat your chips from The Grosvenor Fish Bar across the road while you drink your pint.
Like your drinks with a bit more of a twist?

A parliamentary debate over where substations are built to serve new offshore wind farms in Norfolk has been cancelled – so the MP who had raised it can add his voice at a Norwich meeting about the issue. The companies behind them say they will provide enough energy to power more than four million homes — the equivalent of five Sizewell nuclear power stations. But the work to put in cables and substations will affect more than landowners – and Conservative Mr Freeman has criticised the public engagement.
Vattenfall wants to build two wind farms, Vanguard and Boreas, 50km east of the coast at Happisburgh, while the wind farm, Hornsea Three, will be built km north of the Norfolk coast by Danish energy firm Orsted. Cables from Hornsea Both would then need trenches up to 60 kilometres long to be dug across the Norfolk countryside to connect them to the National Grid. Mr Freeman said he was not against the principle of wind farms and was in favour of offshore renewable energy.
But he said he felt local communities had not been properly engaged with and the siting of a substation the size of Wembley Stadium at Necton was inappropriate.

Caroline Culot. Making first dates fun! Suzy Robb and Charlie Day at the last dating event in November. Pic: Charlie Day. Instead of getting images of a potential date flash up on an app and needing to swipe if you are interested, you get a chance to actually talk and get to know other single people at a series of events organised by the innovative duo. It comes just after the day hailed as the busiest of the year for online dating, last Sunday, which saw huge spikes in people joining up in hope of finding romance in the new year ahead.
Charlie Day, 38 and Suzy Robb, 43, both working, time poor mums, were disillusioned with the online dating services provided – so decided to act and use their experience and contacts to set up Socialise! Instead, they gather a group of like minded single people and meet at a venue where a drink of fizz and light meal is provided for a set cost — the hope is people will really hit it off and meet up again.
